Chester County Special Olympics Ski/Snowboard Team needs you!
Looking for volunteers to team up with us for the 2025-26 ski season.
A fun, rewarding, and enriching way to support incredible athletes! It’s a meaningful commitment you can proudly highlight on college applications and résumés. Minimal time is required (just once a week), and only basic to intermediate ski or snowboard skills are needed.

Graduation Project Hours
Downingtown students can earn Graduation Project hours by participating.
Notify Mr. Saddler—he will act as your advisor and approve your hours.

Ski Bear Creek for Free!!
Ski rentals and lift tickets are free for volunteers!

Requirements
- Contact Coach Rich Hageney to let him know you will volunteer.
- Special Olympic volunteer clearance documents (see below for details on how to register).
- You DO NOT need to commit to every practice. Just let Coach Rich know when you are available to help.
- Transportation is not provided. You’ll need to arrange your own ride to practices, either by carpooling or having someone drop you off and pick up.

How to Register as a Volunteer for Chester County Special Olympics (Special Olympics Pennsylvania—SOPA)

Volunteer Registration Steps
- Go to https://portals.specialolympics.org/ and select “Create An Account.”
- Choose “Pennsylvania” as the program and “Volunteer” as the role.
- Enter your email to receive a verification code, then use it to create your password.
- For the region, select “Greater Philadelphia” → “Chester.”
Once your account is created:
- Click “Select Your Volunteer Role.”
- Choose General and Event.
- Select General Volunteer (Class B).
- Click Apply to this Position.
Note: While you won’t directly train or supervise athletes, you will support them and assist coaches during dry land practices and while skiing/snowboarding at Bear Creek.
